Second blowout

My RV has 8k axles, with about 3300 pounds on each tire, less than 7k per axle, and I run about 110-115 in each tire, based on Goodyears inflation tables. The tread peeled off the left rear and this was the second time in the same location. The tire had less than 1000 miles on it, stays garaged, but the date code shows 3419. Not sure if GY will warranty or not. I'm considering replacing all 5 with a different brand but am not sure what would be better. Any suggestions?

I am going to put Sailun 235/75-17.5 on mine. Stepping up from the 215/75-17.5 Goodyears that came on mine.

You might want to check alignment since it was the same tire on both blowouts.

I replaced my goodyears with Continentals HTL2 Eco+.
Not the cheapest but if your are a FMCA member the discount is substantial, more than enough to cover the membership costs.

Contact the goodyear property damage division if you get nowhere with the tire store.

When I had my blowout on my last trailer GY covered the tire (5) and damage 100%.
The tires were just over 5 years by date code but under 5 years by purchase receipt.

Thank you. I moved up to Continentals on my last tlr, replacing all 5 fairly new tires. I may do that here, and follow Tman's advice on 235's.

Tire delimitation is VERY common on the GY "H" 17.5" tires. I have gone thru this many times. Contact GY and ask for your areas local rep phone number. Talk to that person and they will tell you to take the tire to a GY owned store. They will replace or pro rate the tire depending on date code.

Follow my advice and all will go well. If you have any damage the rep will help you with that. I stayed with GY far too long and since two years ago went with the Continental 235's and have not looked back. MUCH cooler running and are a seriously HD tire.

Some say they get a great price by joining the Motorcoach? group. I paid around $500 ea at Discount Tire/Americas Tire.

Thank you Cummins. At this point, it is a big decision. All of my tires have less than 1000 miles; not showing wear. Continentals will cost me ~$500 each. I realize the replacement is the best decision, just have to think about pulling the trigger. You moved up to 235’s?

I ended up with 4 tires and wheels with low miles like yours I sold on CL for $1,200. That did help with the $2,500 tire bill. I did the 235's. I ended up going to the Alcoa's.

They were looking like crap with the clear coat deteriorating. Some THINK they need to buy the Alcoa's to match the increased load capacity of the "J" Continental's. This is NOT true!!!

Red face Get the best rated tires.

I had new Goodyear several years ago. Got 150 miles had a double blowout on I40. One tire blew causing the adjacent one to blow. Got a new set of Towmax tires. The dealer didn’t have the grade I wanted. Ended up with F rated tires. A year later, 2 miles from the same place I had another blowout. Went back to same dealer. Warranty not honored. Try and prove it’s not a road hazard that caused it. Anyway made good deal with dealer got another set, G rated. Wanted H but he was out. I run with 90lbs. A year later when I took it out of storage they still had 90lbs. I suggest looking at them. Get H rated. They cost but what price is your rig or life worth. I also noticed that Grand Design units come with them now. If you’re running on hot roads let 10 lbs out.

Yea, I’m needing new tires, I’ve had good luck with my Goodyears on my 2018 Mobile suites. Gonna buy them again I think.

You must have low weight per tire.

Because you are NOT ever going to go over the wheel rating on a tandem axle DRV. I am heavier than most with 4,500# on each tire.

So then that comment is a bit misleading.

Rounded numbers.
If you buy 6000 pound rated tires and put them on 4800 pound wheels, then the 6000 pounds are limited to the wheel capacity.
And one doesn't have to buy Alcoa's, HiSpec makes the wheel with a 6K rating.

But
Alcoa's are forged, HiSpec is cast.
Alcoa's are made in the US, HiSpec is china.

When I bought mine ( I needed two wheels) Alcoa's were priced lower.

Just checked my CAT scale log, at the heaviest I was 18830 on the axles, 4707 eache.

F350, where are you located? I'll make you a good deal on 5. One never been on the road, one has 300 miles on it, and the other 3 have less than 1000 miles. Goodyear 215/75/17.5 G114's.

F350, too far for a personal sale and shipping would kill both of us. Maybe someone near San Marcos, TX will be interested.

The best price that I have found for the Continental HTL2 Eco Plus, 235/75R/17.5 in my area is at Southern Tire Mart in Buda, TX. $435 each, $40 mounting, FET, tax, and shop supplies gets the 'Out The Door' price to about $525 each; $2625 for 5. I'm going to get it done the first of next week. Wish that I had a buyer for mine.
