Bed Slideout Cable Breaks

I have replaced three bed slideout cables on JX450 Full House. The cables fray at the little connecting thing on the end of the cable that fits into the hole on the outside of the slide. It looks like the little end connector thing bends the cable slightly when the slide is all the way in, like the pully is too close to the outside of the camper and the little connecting thing starts to roll up on the pully.

Anybody have any experience with this, and if so, is there a permanent fix?

Drill the hole out a bit bigger where the cable slides through so it won't rub. Then insert a rubber boot into the bigger hole, or cover it real good with a rubberized or silicon calking. Let the calking dry then run the cable in and out. It will open a new path and keep the hole sealed. Because the hole is now bigger, and the end crimped catch will not hit anything any more, it should not fray again.
