Carrier Air V (frequent reset)
Hi!
Wonder if anybody could provide some insight as to why our AC unit, a Carrier Air V is shutting off frequently and needing to be reset. We are new to RVing and are full-timing in a 2005 34ft. Cameo by Carriage. The 5th wheel and AC unit is the original which was owned by my mother so I know the history on it. Spent most of its time in Michigan, the AC not commonly used. However we are currently Las Vegas...and moving to Texas so the heat IS an issue, plus we have dogs and are concern about the unit shutting off when we are gone.
Thanks for any insight into a solution! Kasey, Margaret, Woofy and Skipper.

There is not a chance in the world my dogs (if we still had dogs) would spend one minute alone in an RV with a 17 year old AC. You are headed to Texas where you will be in dire need of two AC's not one. Might as well settle in to the idea and go from there.

Carrier V AC
We have a Carriage Carri-Lite just one year newer than yours. It has the same AC. Of course the older anything gets the more likely it is to fail, but our unit is still going strong. I can't suggest what may be happening with yours but if you haven't already, perhaps pull the cowling off on the roof and make sure it's not clogged up with dirt etc.

That would be my first suggestion. if a good cleaning doesn’t fix it call out a reputable RV tech. If it has to be replaced let him do it. Hoisting an a/c up to the roof is one hell of a job. An experienced tech (with a helper) can do the job in less than an hour.

I also own the Carrier Air V on a 2004 Keystone Challenger that we spend 5 months a year in. Agree with Dave the AV guy. Do the routine roof maintenance and if that does not reveal the problem, replacement is your only option.

I had the same ac unit, ended up replacing it. Carrier no longer supports this unit.

You will need two ac's minimum in Texas during the summer and that is if you are in the shade. 3 if your are central or south Texas in direct sunlight all day.
