2005 36 TK3 Re-floor

Just finished. Stole most of the idea from "mortons on the move". If you want to steal from them its is on you tube. She does a good job explaining what they did and she is a lot better looking than me. Check it out. Two small problems, the edge on the slide out is white. We painted it brown but the paint didn't take on the plastic so it looks a bit crappy. Still deciding what to do. Also that slide put a lot of weight on the carpet as it slid in. I was afraid it would scratch the new floor and it did. I cut a couple pieces of carpet about a foot square and stick them under the corners of the slide as it comes in. That seems to have solved the problem. While we were rolling wife made new window trearments and we removed that wallpaper border that ran around the room,

Stanley, you 'da man! I mean she 'da man! Ah, you know what I mean....it looks great. And I don't think the border EVER looked good on ANY of these units.

Your local Lowes, Menards or Home Depot have paint specifically for plastic. It holds very well and weathers only OK if you would use it on outdoor plastic furniture.

Ummmmm.............why not replace the original tile behind the peninsula? That would make it all match.

I like the looks of that new tile though.

Sorry I didn't see this. I'll take you a pic and post it. If you look up Mortonsonthemove they have a youtube video on it and I kind of copied them. The edge of the door side slide was the first piece laid. Used glue and left about two inches or so hanging over the edge so when it closed there was coverage over the floor. Then went from there to the rest of the slide out.

The first piece I laid was the outer edge of the slide. I over lapped the edge by about 3 inches so it would cover the plastic edge when the slide is out. Just cut the ends like the carpet was cut. I glued these pieces. Then I worked in to the slide out wall completing that first. I laid the floor from the edge of the plastic and then when done covered the plastic with a border of trim. When it was all done everything leveled up pretty well. There is a little indent just in from the edge of the slide. When the carpet was there that indent was filled with a board so the carpet actually had a little hump there. I just laid across it as I worked my way in from the slide edge. It worked out OK. I'm not explaining it to my satisfaction but if you will watch the Mortonsonthemove you tube it will explain everything.

Somebody asked me how long it took. I'm 76 so my work days are getting shorter by the year. I would say i could have done it in a day and a half or one long day. I think we spread it out over three or four days and a couple rounds of golf. Stuff is easy to cut, just score it with a cutter and bend. Hope this helps someone.

I did a similar project several years ago in a 2014. I used ceramic tile and left the carpet in the door side slide. Cut a strip of the old carpet to use as runners for the rollers.

In the interest of full disclosure I had to come back and make a follow up post, We expected the door side slide could be a problem scratching the wood floor. We under estimated the problem, My trailer is a 05. The inside of the door slide has a hard plastic on it that I guess is designed to allow it to slide on carpet. It does not slide well on the wood, scratches the heck out of it.

So far I have been using a couple of squares under the hard plastic slide material. Dropping it under the slide as it comes in. That works some but there are still a bunch of light scratches in the middle. Today I tried removing the hard plastic piece. Bad idea. Don't try that the slide will not ramp up in to the RV. I'm still working on correcting that bad decision.

We are now thinking a piece of runner with a nice soft nap that we can lay under the full length of the slide as it comes in. Length is 12 feet or so. A 6 foot runner cut down the middle should do the job and protect the wood, a better answer would be to install some rollers but that would probably require building some kind of ramp.. Any way if you do this expect this issue.

As nice as that floor is, having to deal with some runners when bringing the slide in will be worth it.

From the pictures it sure looks great.
And I’m not showing it to my wife !

Have you considered expanding into the bed and bath?
