GY 614 Tire Date Codes

I spoke to a tire dealer today about upgrading to the 17.5" tires and wheels.

He said that he thought the bad 16" GY 614s were dated early 05 to mid 06.

So I wanted to start this thread to see if you all who have had tire failures would post your tire date codes here to see if we can narrow down the bad tire dates.

My tires are dated 0405(fourth week of 2005) and I have not had a tire failure yet after about 10K-12K miles very well loaded(fulllimers with generator, washer and dryer ect.) .

But am very concerned that if I do have a tire problem that Goodyear will say my tires are too old to cover any damage to my Suite.

Please post your tire date code in this thread so we may narrow this down.

Thank You....

To my knowledge the issue started in the middle to late 2003 production and continued through the mid 2006 dates. My early March built 2004 had the problem and units built before mine also experienced the tread separation.

I had one tread-peel, tire build dated early 2004.
I think Stacey is correct.

I had Two tires tread-peel in Sept. 2008. They had 20,000 + miles. Build date 12th Week 2006. Goodyear, Akron, Ohio (800-322-4682) Gave me 5 new tires, paid for mount and balance, paid all damage to trailer, and paid motel bill. Akron helped me were as Goodyear dealers first tried to sell me tires.

Mine are dated 1606. Had thread separation on 2 tires, some damaged each time. Replacing all tires including spare now. Goodyear has pd for first damage + tire and have a open claim on second. First tire cost me 226 + taxes, etc. 2nd tire 300 + taxes, etc and last 3 tires cost 290 each + taxes, etc.

Thanks guys.
I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered the 17.5" wheels and tires.
I sure hope the piece of mind is worth the $2K.

Can I ask what others that have switched tires and wheels did with their old 16" tires?

Hey Huck, since you are spending all of that money, if you haven't already, you might want to also think about upgrading to 8000 lb axles, with disc brakes. Then you would be really fixed up, howbeit a little less rich - lol. Those were not standard equipments in 2005, but with the Mobile Suites weights, they do offer additional margins of safe traveling/safe stopping. Of course, the 8k axles might require you to order different wheels, to mate with the larger 5/8 hub stud bolts on the 8k's

When I ordered our 2005, I did opt for the Magnum Suspension, with disc brakes, and have never ever regretted it.

While you can get those upgrades probably in many places, I do know that Dale Fenton's company (in Goshen Indiana) has done the 8k axle, disc brake, and 17.5" wheel/tire upgrades for numerous Mobile Suites owners.

Huck, there is "no charge" for all of this "free/unrequestd advice"!!!!! lol lol

old 16" tires/wheels

huck,

I posted mine on Craigslist at $225 complete set--sold in 4 days to a guy with an equipment trailer. Wheels were chrome steel and getting rusty, but tires were really good shape except for age.

I wrote the tire date code on the aluminum rim right next to the valve stem of each tire. Used a marks-a-lot pen.
That reminds you of the tire age each time you air it up. I presently have two 09's and two 06's on my rig. The spare is an original 03..not good.
