LEDs for inside
I have been replacing the inside lights with LEDs and almost have the entire trailer done. Very happy so far with results. Last to get done has been the fluorescent lights in the ceilings--found one to try out and it is amazing. For the 2 fixtures in the living area, I replaced only one bulb in the forward light and shut the rear light off completely--still more light with one LED than 4 fluorescents. Cost was $50, bulb is a StarLights, Inc.
T8 18" tube. I plan on getting one more bulb and using it to replace all 3 lights in the bedroom--that will complete the changeover.

Thank you for the information. Can you provide additional info for the other lights? Are the LEDs just lamps that fit the existing fixtures or did you replace fixtures?
It sounds like for the fluorescents you just installed lamps. Is that right? What about the ballasts?
I'm really interested so the more info the better. Fell free to PM if that is better. Thanks again.

Leo,
I got all the previous fixture lights from SuperbrightLEDs.com by internet order. All fit in the original fixtures. If you call them, they will talk you thru what you are trying to replace--have the light bulb in hand to get the number off for them. The replacements over the lav look really odd--no globe to them--but they really work. In fact, we don't use the BR ceiling lights anymore, just the lav lights, for seeing in the BR.
Tried some from Camping World, but they are just too high.

We've replaced most of the frequently used bulbs with LED's. Was holding off on the CFL's because they are so expensive and we had stocked up on the CFL's over a year ago.
Are they these?

It comes with fairly clear instructions.

David,
Thats the one--thanks for finding it for me. Looking for another in Great Falls hasn't worked out--not an LED in stock at the 2 main RV stores.
Another reminder on the regular light fixtures is there are 2 shades of white light--'cool' and 'warm'--cool is bluish, warm is more like the regular light color, but we opted for the cool hue all around.

Which one did you get to replace the 12v lights above the bedroom vanity, ceiling and dresser.

The bulbs we have replaced the most are the high intensity ones over the head of the bed. The reading lamps in other words. Is there a direct LED replacement that is cool and provides the same amount of light?
So far I have only replaced 4 fluorescent light bulbs and the commode room bulb. I still am using the original vanity lights from 2005, knock on wood.

In the 5 years we have had this trailer, we never had to replace ANY of the factory lights. I went to LEDs mainly to conserve battery power when dry-camping, and my wife and I really like the 'cool white' light they give out. Costly, yes, but....just have to cut back on beer for awhile.
Another reason for the replacement of the incandescent bulbs was the heat given off--you cannot touch either the reading pod lights or the spots over the island for some time after they are off.
The pod lights are a flat disc with 2 prongs on the edge--I don't have the number handy, but you can find them at any LED source. They are the ones I replaced first, think there are 11 of them. Liked them so much, went looking for the globe fixtures and the spots over the couch. So far, the only ones not done are the 2 lights on the wall behind the couch.
The world of replacement LEDs can be very confusing, and is still that way to me. Even with the old bulb in hand and talking to the LED vendor, I have made a couple of mistakes in what I ordered.

I wasn't aware that CFL's came in 12 volt versions. Where can I order them?

motor31,
try this link--
http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...ther_bulbs.htm
The LEDs I put in the pod lights above the desk/recliners/kitchen counter and bed are the G4-XHP10-DAC
They provide much more light than the originals.

In our search for replacements, found it best to buy 1 of each and test them out. What works for one person doesn't always work for someone else.
We have 2 different sizes of puck lights that use the G4 Halogen bulbs. Tried different colors - CW above stovetop, in bathroom, hallway to BR and in ceiling of dinette slideout. Then WW in main ceiling. But we don't ever use those. Mainly they are back-up lights and don't like the WW as well.
G4-xWHP10-D: 10~30VDC 10HP-LED G4 Lamp | $ 14.95 |
G4-WWHP10-D : Warm White
------------------------------------------------------------
G4-xHP6-DAC: 6HP-LED Disc G4 Lamp | $ 11.95 |
G4-CWHP6-DAC: Cool White
------------------------------------------------------------
G4-xHP10-DAC: 10HP-LED G4 Lamp | $ 14.95 |
G4-CWHP10-DAC: Cool White
We're happy with the light output from these, but not so much with the wedge base 921's that we got from SuperBright.
921-x12: Wedge Base LED bulb | $ 5.95 |
These work fine in the wall sconces where we don't need much light or mind the Blue cast.
But found some different ones from Dyer's that work better in the Island pendant lights. More expensive, but worth it. And they work on 12v, just not with a dimmer switch. Only bought 3 to test out. Need to buy 3-more eventually for dining room light fixture.
*Ming's 921 Green Long Life 250 Lumens LED Bulb - SKU: 72146 (Warm White) Bonus is 100,000 hrs. Much more than the life expectancy of the wedge base that turn brown and burn out eventually.
Still looking for spot lights above bed and LR seating- 1139IF - BA15 base. Hate the heat output, so these are barely ever used. Also, hasn't been a priority since some of the LED's are as higher than others. Plus need to make sure they would work with style fixtures we have and are the right color. Too many red, blue or yellow for auto bulbs.

David,
Are you saying that the LED's will NOT work with a dimmer?
A good source for LED bulbs is Batteries Plus.

Pat.
Only certain LED's will work with the residential dimmers. There are LED dimmers available.
You have to look for those LED's that show a range. Such as: 10~30VDC
From Superbrightleds website: "•CAUTION: ALL 120 AND 240 VAC BULBS ARE FOR USE WITH STANDARD ON/OFF SWITCHES ONLY Use with any type of dimmer, relay or other control circuit will VOID WARRANTY - LEDs are very sensitive and subject to premature failure from electrical noise spikes"
