Programmers

Are there any of you using a programmer, chip, or module that improves your mpg while towing? I have adequate power but I would love to improve my mpg. My tow vehicle is a 2004 F250 4x4 Superduty Turbo Diesel. I currently use a Suprchips programmer in the "tow" mode and while
it does provide more power, there's no difference in mpg versus stock mode. I know there are many different modifications that can be made to improve mpg on diesels, but they're quite expensive. Programmers are the cheapest way to go but there are so many on the market. Maybe one of you has found one that actually works.

My experience with engines and diesels is there is not a one stop fix all. A programmer is not a bad option if you are not worried about warranty issues with the truck. IMHO any preprogrammed tuner is only a you get what you pay for item. To see any really good gains you will need to have the truck dyno and tuned. That being said I did install a bulldog on my friends 2002 f250, that coupled with opening up the airflow and a better exhaust and down pipe did show real power gains. He doesn't tow so I can't answer how the mpg does towing. But in his Eco tune setting he increased about 3.5mpg

Being that you have a 6.0L, you need to limit the increases in power or you will stretch the head bolts. If you really want to make it strong and last, give BulletproofDiesel a call and talk to them. Some money spent now may well save you a lot later, and you can up the power without too much worry.

LOL, Joe, just teasing about the Ram. You are right about the 6.0 fords, blew headgaskets on two, one with a tuner, one without. Why I went Cummins.

Rams are looking good lately...but I have a friend that has a 12-yr-old one that I swear I can hear him start it about 6 miles away. New ones--pretty sharp.
