Desk Mod

We having purchased yet but are considering the 2016 "Cumberland" floorplan when it's a year or two old. It has a small den with a beverage bar, TV, entertainment center and small fireplace. My hubby plans to consult so we'd pull the loveseat out and put a desk in its place.

Is this something the manufacturers could do or is it strictly an aftermarket thing? Does anyone have experience with mods?

In the past, one could arrange to get a piece of furniture to the manufacturer and they would put them in for the customer. Now, since Thor/Heartland has purchased DRV Suites, I don't know what they do.

Key question is the size of the desk you want to use. If the desk is not able to be moved in via the normal entry points to the RV, then it would have to be put in by the factory, if they do that. If it is small enough to go through the door(s), then one might be ahead to do the change as an aftermarket modification.

You would need to check with a DRV dealer to see if they could ask if the manufacturer would install the desk for you, but again, if you ever chose to remove it, would it fit through doors?

Great ideas

It'll probably be a better idea to have a desk built into the space, one assembled inside or use a small one in front of the loveseat.

We aren't wanting to buy new but depending on interest rates & the market, it might make more sense to so we can customize.

Thanks for thinking material!

The Houston has a desk built in to it. We have this model and I use all of the time and love it. I had them change the overhead cabinets (I have a large monitor) above the desk an place a larger window over the desk. Just a thought...

We removed the table and a couple of chairs in our 2009 MS to add different desk configurations. But they would bounce during travel and it was hard to secure the drawers shut.

Eventually, we eventually replaced the whole thing with a 2010 style Buffet table. Rather than go through the factory, we had Paul Cross at Indiana Interstate do it. There are a few other dealers or cabinet makers that now do modifications, especially up in the Amish country of Northern Indiana.

So I recommend, once you find a used or one that has been sitting on dealer lot for awhile, ask them or anywhere you're headed as to where the best place will be to take it.
