Mike, do you know if they will let me join as a wannabe? Unless they take a nose dive before we're ready to buy, there is no doubt that we'll buy a Teton, and I'd like to join early to start figuring out what current owners like/dislike. Thanks!

I'm not sure Roy, I think they let you in as a guest but I'm not sure. Give it a whirl. Terry nance is the webmaster. Email him and he would be able to tell you. There is also a Yahoo group od tetoners that is even more active than this one. i don't know the web site, but maybe you can search yahoo. Let me know how you make out...

Roy,
Thats good, Terry is a great guy. I wish the Forum got more use.

Tell me this, With a truck and 5th wheel like mine, what is the length limit in Calif? Also, I tow a Honda behind the 5th, does Calif allow that?

Thanks
Mike

Sorry for the delay, Mike. Had to do some research for you, but here goes!

In CA, the max. allowable overall length for your situation (hauler/fiver) is 65', no matter whether you are towing an additional toad or not (which is not specifically illegal to do, as long as you observe that 65' maximum) I can't imagine you can keep it under 65' unless you have a very short fiver!

The only way to be able to go beyond that (up to 75' overall) is if you are towing a set of double trailers in which each trailer is 28'-6" or less. (Sometimes we see hay-haulers doing this, for example.) The other restriction with this setup is that they are essentially confined to our interstate highways and the immediately adjacent areas (they can't roam all over @ 75')

Probably more info than you wanted, but there it is!

Happy New Year and Happy Motoring!

Roy

Thanks for all your effort Roy. Don't they honor my state of residence, which is SD.? Length law there is 75'. I don't need a CDL in SD either.
Probably the only thing I could drive legal in CA would be my Honda CR V.....
Happy New Year !!!!
Talk to ya next year!!

Sorry Amigo, but if you we're to get stopped for being over the 65' limit, they would probably give you two options: disconnect the toad, or ask you to do an about-face and head east. Hopefully you would not also get a ticket as an added bonus!

That being said, if you are somewhere close to the limit, and don't draw attention to yourself in some other way (like exceeding the 55 mph speed limit) then you probably would not get stopped in the first place. If you're upwards of 80' like some might be with an HDT, 40' Teton, plus drawbar and toad, it could be costly!

I think I need to get a 39' toy hauler and one of those Smart cars to stuff in the back!

Take Care!
