Question on Water Source

My wife asked a question recently, that I hadn't thought about. So I thought I'd throw it out here.

If you have city water hooked up and working, but then turn on the water pump, are you then drawing from your fresh water tank, or are you still drawing from the city water hook up?

It depends on the pressure of the city source. If the city water source is high enough, your pump will not come on and you will get city water at the taps. If the city water pressure falls below the start pressure, the pump will start and pump out of the tank.

The city water supply pressure is limited by a 50psi regulator. Any idea what the pressure would need to be to override the on board water supply pump?

Pretty simple answer. Hook it up and listen to hear if the pump comes on. Can't mistake that. My questiuon=why do you have your water pressure set so low?

What pressure do you run Bill? I have mine set on 60 lbs but still think it should be higher.

Standard 50psi regulator. Never saw a need or had a desire to set it higher.

I assume there's no way the plumbing can allow the pump to come on yet be flowing city water.

I do not use a regulator at all. Has worked for me for about 20 years. I have been in several parks that warn of high pressure. One that stated close to 100 lbs. I have a sediment filter, then a water softner and then a charcoal filter. This is what regulates the pressure. I also do periodic checks of rhe joints. The pex piping is tested and rated to 300 lbs. Joints are the weak points.

pork chop your system no doubt restricts FLOW but unless your system has a built in pressure regulator your pressures inside are what they are at the hose bib.

I never used a pressure regulator until this RV. Bought a high quality watts PR that I set to 60psi. I have also ran into 100psi parks with no ill result. Not worth taking a chance with the quality DRV is putting out these days.
