How much truck do I need?
We’ve decided to order a new DRV 39DBRS3. Now I need a truck to pull it. I’m looking at a Ram 3500 Laramie Longhorn DRW, Cummins/Aisin/4:10.
Realistically what is the pin weight of one of these units loaded and ready to roll? The GVWR of the Ram is 14,000 lbs. The truck weight plus fuel, DEF, hitch, and a few people leaves a payload weight hovering near 5,000 lbs. Is the 3500 gonna cut it or do I need something bigger?

Our 2017 38RSSA with propane generator, loaded for Florida, has a pin weight of 3900#. Very similar rigs other than we have the generator. You will not need to go to some Freightliner to get your RV around. Very nice RV I might add. And we do not haul with water in the tank.

Welcome.
We'd agree, the proposed Ram 3500 DRW should do very well. We FT and come in with a similar pin weight w/ Onan.
I think you will want the factory frame risers (2-3"?) if you haven't included them on your build sheet specs.
Be well.

That’s very reassuring. Thanks guys. Also Butch at RV’s For Less told me I’ll need the risers. My wife and I are planning a Good Friday trip to Knoxville to iron out the details and place our order.

My F-350 pulls my 44', 24000 lb DRV Santa Fe just fine so I suppose a ram 350 would work. But do you really want your friends and family to see you driving one? For just a little more you can get a real truck.

I’d love to have a real truck, Bill, but Chevy doesn’t have the tow capacity I need so I’ll stick with the Ram. In fact I put a deposit on a Laramie Longhorn Friday.

Ahhhhh, Bill, guess you now have a GM puller.....
But the Ram will do well except in public.
