Fuel mileage.

Question for you RAM owners. Looking at a RAM 3500, 4X4, automatic, SRW, Cummins, with 3.74 gears. What kind of fuel mileage can I expect unloaded. It will be our daily driver is the reason I'm asking.

Roadking, I can only speak for the Ford diesel, but it will help you in that the big three are VERY close in mileage figures. If you should run across a few owners telling you that their everyday figures reach 24, uh, well, you can probably spot BS a mile away. We tow the Suites at 62 and get about 9.5 to 11. If we get hilly then it may stay at 9.0 When we are unhooked for a long period we will generally get about 18.5 or so. We just returned form a five day in the UP, normally travelling about 55 or so and got 20.5 for two days straight.
These are real figures, and I think you'll find that all three of the big guys will treat you well.

GM here, we typically see about 15-17 MPG combined city-hwy.

Drove a 2011 Ford F-350 dulley diesel with 3.73 rear..got about 16mpg around town, 10-12 pulling a drv MSA38. Now driving a 2017 f-450 diesel with 4.30 rear—~14-15mpg around town—-9-10 with the drv...depends a lot on where you drive...going up and down the hills on 77 in wva and va in the low end...once you get on the flat roads like eastern North Carolina mpg gets better. Not a dodge but should be close...f450 has a 48gallon tank

Generally, after reading many posts about brands/models--it SEEMS to me that Rams get a little better mpg solo and towing than Ford/GM. But there are so many variables involved that a definitive answer is almost impossible to ascertain.
If you are really concerned about mpg in a daily driver, then the lower numerical ratio gears usually do better.

I’ve got a 2018 RAM 3500 DRW and I am getting around 17 mpg when not towing and I drive it as my primary vehicle.

Thanks for all the responses. Let me add another question. I'm finding plenty of 3500 that will more than pull the coach we have on order but most have a 4.10 rear gear. How much difference do you think there will be mileage wise between a 4.10 and a 3.73? The 3.73 will do what I need it to do and then some.

Roadking, the vast majority of your fuel mileage comes from wind resistance and rolling resistance, not rear gearing. I would guess you would see less than 1/2 MPG at the most.

I get 18-20 mpg empty on flat roads with
cruise set on 70mph

My '05 5.9 3500 gets 18-20. Closing in on 300k miles.

2013 RAM, but DRW. 18-20 depending on the roads. Across PA got 19.2. Towing, 11.2 average. Set up the same, but as a DRW.

No one mentioned if the truck is new enough to use DEF and the temperature is cold. Expect the mileage to drop a couple MPG. Warm weather improves mileage

21.5 interstate speed and 12 towing at 65mph. I have a 3.42 rear gear and do not use DEF.
