sealed bearing assembly
We have a 2007 Select suite 31RL3, its new to us, previous owner had minimal miles on it, original owner had enclosed storage with moderate miles, from what Ive seen, it appears as a very low mile unit since the Dexter axle tags from the assembly line order are still hanging on the axles and very easy to read!!
Question, if this unit has spent a majority of its 12 years sitting are the sealed bearings still considered usable, or should they be replaced, have put a couple hundred miles on them towing the unit to new home but want some confidence with a long haul run this winter.
appreciate any past experience and input.

Look at the backside small amount of grease showing is normal If a lot starts showing up it's time to replace. Jack one wheel at a time give them the push pull test and give em a spin.

I had these on a previous 5er and loved them. Check them out like Cummins said and you might want to buy a spare hub just in case. They are not cheap the bearing cost $125 several years ago but to change out the bearings on the road you have to have a pretty hefty press so a lot of owners carried the whole hub assembly. Also make sure you have the proper socket and breaker. I think it was a 1 and 1/16 but I am not positive.
I thinks these were never-lube bearings. If you are talking about the oil bath bearings please dis-regard this post.

If you have the nev-lube setup the hubs are no longer available but the bearing is. The bearing is available from etrailer.com. If the hub or axle gets damaged from a bearing failure you will have to buy a whole new axle assembly.

I was looking for a replacement assembly as a spare when on the road, if only the bearing is available, guess thats my only option! we haven't set out on a long trip but if service was required I would hope there are plenty of dexter service places along the way. ( planning on traveling from north west to south west and then east to Newfoundland and Labrador, via USA routing)

Might I make one comment? I hope your tires are 'recent.' By recent, I mean less than three years old? Don't look at wear, look at build date stamped on the side. And maybe tell us what brand they are.

Tires should be good for 5 years, at a minimum. Some say 7.

Anyone have the Good Year phone number to call and person to speak with when one has a tire problem? May have a tire ready to peal the rubber off. Need one of their dealers to check things out for me. Thanks.

Go to a GY OWNED tire store ONLY. Call GY Customer service and ask for the area rep's phone number. The rep can coordinate helping you and get you a better deal.
Tire look like this? What is the date code? The three center ribs start coming loose. My date code was 0415.

That is the ONLY GY tire issue I have ever had. EVERY RV I have owned has had GY US Made tires on them from "E" to "H".
During that time they had issues but they don't blow unless you simply keep driving without ever looking at your tires.
As long as the tread depth is good and the tire looks good I will run 7 years no problem.

Running the typical RV tire seven years, even five years, is simply not a recommended practice. The majority of RV’s built in this country are delivered with “Trailer King” grade tires, barely fit to drive off the lot. Keep in mind your Goodyear brand for average RV’s until two years ago was that now infamous Marathon....how did they turn out for you?

"I" did not mention Marathons. My "E" tires were Wranglers. I would never run POS tires like "Trailer King, GreenBall etc"
I dumped the new TrailerKing tires that came on my Boat Trailer and replaced with GY Endurance.
QUALITY tires will go 7 years.

Cummins12V98: Looking at the tire picture you posted. Not sure what it depicts. You mention "the three center ribs" but there are only four ribs on the tire. Can you elaborate some more on the point you are making. Your help is very much appreciated, thanks. My tires look somewhat like your picture.

The tire is typical of G-114 GY 17.5s when the tread begins to separate from the tire body. The pic shows left/right or inside/outside shoulders, 4 grooves and 3 center ribs. This happened to 2 of 4 of my 114s at the 2.5 year mark. When you can see a distinct difference in the 'levelness' of the ribs, the tread is beginning to separate. Many times, there will be cups forming/chunks off on the edges of the ribs as the separation progresses--at some point, the tire will throw off the tread, possibly not all at once, and will flop around as the tire rotates and beat up the side metal and take out the brake lines, if they are still on the outside of the frame rails.
