Drill the hole out a bit bigger where the cable slides through so it won't rub. Then insert a rubber boot into the bigger hole, or cover it real good with a rubberized or silicon calking. Let the calking dry then run the cable in and out. It will open a new path and keep the hole sealed. Because the hole is now bigger, and the end crimped catch will not hit anything any more, it should not fray again.
