New Tires

Just replaced the last two orignal tires on my International, got 72,000 miles and could maybe have gotten another 5,000. Just wondered if this was about the normal for these trucks?

On my 4700, I got only 40,000 on the original Michelins. Fought with Michelin and they admitted the XZU4 tires were defective and they were being discontinued. They installed a set of XZE's and I now have 70,000 on the front and I think they are good for another 5-10,000 miles. I recently replaced the rear tires with a set of Toyos and I am very dissatisfied with them. On the Michelins, I ran 55 PSI in the rear and got great wear and a great ride. On the Toyos, I have to run 90 PSI to keep the rear from 'sqirmming' and try to steer the truck. When running without the trailer it rides very rough. I have contacted Toyo about it and they can offer no assistance.

I have 6 XZE on my 4700 where on it when I bought it 7 months ago had 49,000 miles now 54,000 the tires are labeled 2002 but the look like new.
I am interested in wt. on other 4700 solo and with 5er on here are mine.
When I bought truck full fuel 2 people.
Sole Front 7620 Rear 5720
After loaded storage bay,dog and wife's electric scotter (no back seat)and 3 storage boxes on bed.
Solo Front 7900 Rear 6640
With 5er Front 8200 Rear 9700
Front axel 10,000 Rear axel 15,000
5er 38ft Prowler Regal AX6

What year MDT & Trailer? Have you weighed side to side? When I loaded mine up, and weighed at the Cat scales, I thought everything was fine. Then I bought individual wheel scales and reweighed each axle. Boy, did I find the truth, almost 1,200 lbs heavier on the right rear axle than the left. I rearranged everything and got to within 250 lbs. I never felt any difference in the ride or handling before, and none after the switch. But I was running the wrong tire pressures for the actual load I was carrying.

My MDT is 2000 and 5er 2004. Bought TV in Nov. 04
I weight my TV & 5er at a CAT Scale also but I have never check wt. on each wheel that would be a good idea.
I run air each tire at 105.

With that kind of air pressure in your truck tires, are your eyeballs getting shook out of your head?? That is WAY too much pressure for your load.

You are right.
I should have about 85lbs in the rear with loaded cap. of 9,700lbs and a tire cap. of 17,000lbs
110 in front with loaded wt. of 8,000lbs and tire cap. of 8,400lbs

But I can not get to the inside tire from the outside need to raise truck and to under it.

I have had 105 lbs in my 4700 since I bought it because after I bought it I noticed there where was no fill for the inside tire so #1 I have not found a tire dealer who will or has the fill hose to put on the inside tire. I even checked with the International dealer in Appleton Wi. he did not have any thing to use for a fill hose on the inside tire, he would install it if I brought it to him.#2 I have not installed a fill hose from my air tank, which is used to fill the seats,cab,hitch and 15,000lb air ride rear end and 10,000 front.
I just need to buy the tools and do all these things my self.
If you want it done right do it your self.

I finalley find a tire shop with air valve extensions for my rear inside tires I will now lower the tire pressure.

All of the tire pressure stats are from Michelin Costumer Service as of 7/27/05.

Bobtailing Front 95lbs Wt. 8200lbs/ Rear 75lbs Wt. 6640
Load W/5er Front 100lbs Wt. 8540lbs /Rear 75lbs Wt. 9700/12840

The front wts. include load transfer from braking. Per Michelin also.

The rear wts. are from Mechelin the 75lbs for the rear is minimum and will carry 12840lbs. in dual rear set up. So this is a bobtail and loaded with 5er.

I heard back from Michelin Costumer Service today and they said the minimum tire pressure for 245x70x19.5 was 75lbs. I say a post that said he ran 55lbs tire pressure in the rear but I am not sure what size tire he has. I will put the tire pressure for my wts. in my previous post.
