2007 Ram
I only caught part of this news cast. Dodge will get the new Cummins 6.? diesel that will have a type of exhaust brake built in with other goodies to meet the emission standards. It will be available in the 3500 and will have 50+ gal tank. I believe I will wait for 2007 models to arrive, that is unless they come with some really big incentives.

The 2007 with the 6.7 is only going to be in the 3500 cab chassis model is what I have read. The 5.9 in still the engine for the time being in the standard 2500/3500.

Was just back in Detroit last week visiting some friends, and one works for Chrysler. He said they are going to have the Mega cab short box, DUELLY out by summer. I haven't seen or heard anything about this anywhere else, but I could have just missed it. Has anyone else heard this??

Mega Cab Dually will only be built as a one ton. The short bed will be the only bed offered.

Unfortunatly, it seems that with the Mega Cab, all you get is a bigger cab with less cargo capacity. I really hope that Dodge has plans to come out with a 4500 and or 5500 in order to compete with Ford's F450 and F550.
I really love my Dodge, however Dodge isn't capable of pulling the large fifth-wheels such as the Elite Suite with it's 20,000lb GVWR.

Here in Mexico where Dodge trucks are assembled, I often see Dodge 4500 and 5500 (military in particular) trucks. Typically these are flatbed cargo, and in the case of the military, troop transport trucks.
Gasoline only. I have never seen Dodge 3500, 4500 or 5500 Mexican plated pickup or flatbed anything other than gasoline engine.
So they know how to make em!!

mxrver,
You'd think if they make a 4500 and 5500, you should be able to get one with a deisel powerplant. Guess I'll have to do some investigating. Thanks for the info.

I don't think they are going to offer 2 Cummins engines for 07. maybe a smaller fuel tank option. My local dealer tells me I can't get a "Jake Brake" for a 2006 for 3 months. I would have to wait for the 07 models.

Well, I did some investigating and found an interesting article. It would appear that Dodge is making plans to come out with a 4500 and 5500 series Medium Duty Truck in late 2006 or 2007. If anyone wants to read the article the link is:

On our trips in Mexico we saw Dodge trucks with 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 & 8000 designations. The larger ones were tandem axle and had diesels of some kind. They did not sound like a Cummins but were heavy on spewing out black smoke.
Some were tankers, bulk fruit haulers, Pepsi/Coke trucks, dump trucks etc.
If we are patient the market will force them to go larger in the states to stay competitive.

I have checked with Dodge and the "new 6.7 diesel" will not be available for units with a box. It will have a 6 speed auto trans. So has anyone have a clue where to point me for a add-on platform/box option? A smi-flatbed may be of better use.

Shouldn't a dealer be able to order and install a stock box for you after the delivery. It would be the same as if you had wreaked the back end.

That is a good reply, and I will check it out. My thinking is they will incorporate the new system after the new year.

Check out turbodieselregister.com or dieseltruckresource.com. The 6.7L Cummins is available for order with the 68RFE 6-speed automatic or G56 manual now in the 2500 and 3500 HD pickups. The 6.7L/Aisin 6-speed automatic or G56 manual is (and has been) available in the cab and chassis models.
The exhaust brake function is integral with the VGT turbocharger. The exhaust brake option is just programming/activating the function in the ECM. When the exhaust brake is activated, the variable nozzle is throttled to its minimum area, creating the back pressure that generates the retarding horsepower.
