DRV quality - 5th wheel purchase

OK - here goes. I placed a post on this forum a year ago trying to pick people's brains over what 5th wheel to buy. We liked DRV floor plans and construction but were concerned about quality and quality control. We had spoken to a number of people who had problems with their 2009-2012 DRVs.

Some of you asked us to let you know what we decided upon - Excel. The company is great to work with and they make a great product. They make just two units per week and will not do more so that the quality remains high! We are very pleased with our unit. The quality control is much better than DRV. We would happily buy another.

As a side note - we stopped at a dealer recently who had 2 2014 Mobile Suites on the lot. Out of curiosity we looked at one. Not much has changed! There were nails sticking out of the wall under several of the valances, cracked woodwork filled with putty, gaps where the cabinets were not joined properly filled with putty, another piece of wood trim split, problems with exterior paint - the list goes on. And that was just a quick look. Where is the factory PDI?? They must not do one - or they need to fire the guy that does it! The unit's price was $134,000! We still like the DRV floorplan and "look" but are VERY happy with our Excel!

I think Excels are good units, but doubt that they could survive on 104 units made per year--doesn't sound quite right.
There are 6 on a dealers lot in Granbury--3 weeks' worth.

Had an Excel and full timed in it for about 2 years before we got the mobile suites. Never gave us a bit of trouble and we were the 2nd owners. Went looking for another one but couldn't find a dealer in our travels in 05 and the clincher was the small (50 / 60 gal) fresh water tank that Excel used. At that time we dry camped during the winter somewhat regularly and the small tank was not something we wanted to deal with any more. In retrospect, I wish we had.
