Alloy wheels cracking at valve stem
This is the wheels mine came with when I bought it used
(Top picture). Run 95 psi in them and no I'm not over weight .
Had the left front one fail on me last year. Found one on eBay that was a close match. Had it sent out to my brother in-laws where we were staying. Had it installed finished vacation and went home.
Fast forward to this year and had the left rear one do the same in New Mexico. Found one on etrailer.com had it sent out to brother in-laws in SD .
These are the replacements, bottom picture
Has anyone else had their wheels fail?

Been towing since 1978 a trailer of some sort, never had a wheel failure. Consider biting the bullet and get 4 new ones...what about the other 2 that are left?
I had a 2005 36TK3--changed the 16s to 17.5s, new wheels/tires. If you are going to get new wheels, going to the 17.5 wheels/tires should solve any future problems.

Forgot to say both failed the same way. Cracked in the valve stem area. I also have been towing from the early 70's. Never had rim fail or leak. On my 2003 Teton I did change to 17.5 tires and wheels because of tire failure.
Nine to be exact. 17.5 tires fixed that problem.

Then there is the answer. One-time expense to change it all out, and travel more relaxed.

Ron,
trailertiresandwheels has changed name to trailersetgo.com and is no longer in Edon, OH. Moved to Elkhart, not sure that it is still the same people.

95 psi seems excessive, the wheels say 80 psi on the back dont they? My 2010 say it anyway. How many miles? Got me worried now..

Call Hi-Spec wheels, they have a lifetime warranty.
This is the contact info I have.
(574) 807-8588
(574) 807-8589
warranty@hispecwheel.com
Hi Spec had a run of improperly made wheels (china - again), the area where the bead transitions to the main web were cast too thin and developed hairline cracks.
I had one replaced under warranty for a crack.
2 years later I had two wheels fail on the same day.
Hi Spec then replaced all 5 wheels - twice. The first set they sent was the wrong color.
Still cost me $145 for the mount and balance.
Of the 5 I had to return 2 (they supplied return shipping).
The other three were scrapped for $25 each.
Contact Scott and Trailer Tire and Wheels as well, he may be able to expedite.

Just ordered new 17.5 wheels from trailerandtruckparts.com. It's where I got my wheels I put on my Teton years ago. Tires are coming from Simple Tire. Sailun 657 is what I went with. 215/75r-17.5's. Having them shipped out here to S.D. were I'm at waiting on my F-350 being repaired because of the hail damage.

Ran Hankook tires on my Teton when I switched to 17.5 size. Never had a problem with those. We also ran them on the trucks and trailers when I worked at the Kubota tractor dealership. Simple Tire was out of stock on them. I've read nothing but good things about the Saulins so that was my next pick. Should be here next week.

Here are the new wheels and tires I installed.
I'm running 90 psi in the tires which is for 3880 lbs.
Max is 125 psi for 4880 lbs. With the valve stems I had bought with the wheels 130 psi is max.

I had one of the front wheels on my truck get a crack from the valve stem hole. First one I had ever seen, replaced under warranty.

Just curious if anyone had replaced their 16" wheels/tires to 17.5" using steel wheels instead of the aluminum? I know, their not as pretty but since you would need to get five (spare), you would save ~$500. Although it looks like the ones that the OP got were on sale for ~$150ea not the normal $250-$290ea. That really is a good price which I had never seen b4.

I kept my OEM steel 16" spare. Not planning on needing it again.

That sounds pretty risky. Is not the 16" spare a different total diameter than the 17.5"? Or are they really close?

30.8" for 235/80-16. 30.2"" for 215/75-17.5.
655 / 668 revolutions per mile.
Not a big difference.
