50 Amp Power

I am purchasing a Franklin 42 foot 5th wheel with 50 amp service and want to connect it to my house power for use locally. I have checked all the posts in this forum I can find and it seems to me that the 50 amp service is 50 amps for each leg of the 240 volt house service. In other words to completely power the 5th wheel I would need 100 amp 120 volt service. NOT 25 amps for each 120 volt leg. But 50 amps for each 120 volt leg. Is this correct?

In other words I can connect the power to my house's 240 volt service with 2 50 amp breakers.

Or connect with one double 50 amp. breaker.

The two 120 volts have to come from separate legs.

Keep in mind that the RV power plug uses a diffent style plug than the regular 240 plug for say a stove or other appliance.

That is correct. You'll need a double 50amp beaker for each leg/side (of 125V) on the power panel. Then when you wire the 50A outlet, you'll have two wires hot (each 125V and out of phase); one neutral; and one ground (for a total of 4 wires).

The 50amp outlet is avail at Home depot or Lowes. Its the same one as a Stove plug.

Here is a very good article on wiring 50-amp service for an RV. I'd suggest reading it BEFORE plugging you RV into a home 240-volt 50-amp service!
