Angry Slideout

The slideout on my Fleetwood Prowler Lynx Ultra Light seems to be out of square not only from side to side but also from top to bottom. It appears to in a bind when bringing it back in but gains speed when partially retracted. My original problem was it broke the pin connecting the two sides with a single motor which was diagnosed as being rusted in need of being lubricated. Any advise or suggestions welcome. I know it sounds like I have no RV experience but all previous RV were in good working order. This dyi project is a different story.

Without seeing the slide arms--are they electric or hydraulic? Does the motor on the one side have a long square bracket that goes over to the other side to move it?

Haven’t figured how to post pictures yet but it looks electric and yes it has a long square hollow shaft that fits over a round pin part of gear assembly

I believe you have a generic Lippert slide mechanism, electric only, no hydraulics? If there are teeth on the slide arm, then the motor turns a gear on the one slide end and the square bar turns the gear at the other end. There are 'pins' (usually just threaded bolts) that lock the square bar to the round shaft ends. These pins are there to 'shear off' if an obstruction it hit when the slide goes out/in so no permanent damage is done. Clear the obstruction, replace the pin/bolt and operate the slide. Many times, the slide ends will be out of sync and you will need to turn the slave end by hand/wrench. Probably easiest to use a pipe wrench on the round shaft to move the slide end in/out to where it is in line with the driven end. As to the top/bottom alignment, there are adjustments on the end of the slide arms for that.
If the motor works, then you probably just need to replace the pin/bolt in the driven end and sync the other end and put the pin/bolt in that end (assuming the square shaft is usable). The shaft should be a 2-piece slip fit...smaller one goes inside the larger one to adjust the ends to where the pin/bolt can be put in.

Lens, the instructions you have received from Wingnut is exactly on the money. Once you have done this you will be an old veteran of this repair. I might add that you are not to use grade 5 or grade 8 bolts. I got my experience on the front legs of our Raptor....on a 98 degree day.

Just glad it has worked--I only knew about the setup when a long-time Mobile Suites owner explained it all to me.
