I have had a travel trailer for years, and am finally looking at 5th wheels. I upgraded my truck last year to a 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD, 6.6L gas, 4:10 rear. I have seen tow "capacities" from 13,000 lb to 21,000. I have read all the spec sheets and still can't really figure it out. So, can anyone tell me...can I tow up to 16,000 with this guy? I think I can, but would love to hear from anyone who actually does, or really really knows. Of course the salesmen say I can..... Anyone in the know, I would love to hear from you!

Contact Chevy, they can tell you the tow rating by the VIN. It’s been so many years since I checked on my soon to be retired 1999 Silverado 1500 that I don’t remember how I got the phone number. If you can’t find the contact Info on the Chevy website try calling a local dealer. They should be able to point you in the right direction.

It won't matter if you can tow it or not. Your 2500 won't handle the payload of a 16K RV. Pin weights of 3K are out of your Chevy's range. Will the engine and gears pull this down the highway? Sure, although a little slow up mountains. Look at the yellow sticker on the driver's door pillar and find the cargo capacity. Pin weight on your RV will be about 24-2800 pounds with nothing in the basement. 200 pounds of fuel, you and Momma and a couple kids 600 pounds....go from there.
3500 or better. Any idea that your truck could pull a 21K fifth wheel is so far out of the question it isn't even worth discussing.

The 6.6 liter is the diesel Duramax. The gas motor is 6.0.

According to Chevy brochure:
6.0L----14500 conventional
6.0L----14800 fifth
6.6D----14500 conventional
6.6D----18100 fifth
Since you already have the truck, imperative you find out the Rear Axle Weight Rating and Payload for your truck--as mentioned above, you will run out of Payload and Rear Axle capacity before you hit the towing max weights.
These are specs that should have been looked at BEFORE buying the truck...
