RV Consumer Group Ratings

Has anyone paid the membership to "RV Consumer Group" which is a non-profit organization which rates the different 5th wheels by model and manufacture? If so, is it worth the $139 investment?

"While we never purchased the RVCG material I did have the opportunity to review the material an a few occasions and IMHO they were way off on several points as Ned has pointed out. No I am not a supporter of RVCG and I do not recommend spending the money for their material. Like Ned IMHO you can get much more valid information right here.

As far as I know the RVCG does no inspection of RV/s nor do they do any actual testing. Now how in the world can a valid rating be made on a product that the rating organization never test or inspects?

IMHO there are better ways to spend the money their information costs."

Above is one opinion of the RVCG. I feel you can get a lot of info on the various internet RV forums, especially the owner's forum on a particular model.
Try googling for "RV Consumers Group reviews" and judge for yourself.

I met a lady online at another forum a couple of years ago that worked for New Horizons. She told me that RVCG would insist that the manufacturer pay their hotel and food bills while they were at the manufacturer's facilities. She told me that for what the RVCG did, it certainly wasn't much. Incidentally, I think from what I was told once that New Horizons is the only RV fifth wheel manufacturer that had a 5-star rating.

If you are interested in different brands, seek out forums where owners report on their rigs to get a better idea of how those rigs perform. However, keep in mind that forums have a tendency to attract people who are looking for a solution to a problem with their unit. Thus, if you want a real testament to the RV's quality or convenience, register on their forums and ask this, "If you were to trade for a new RV today, would you buy the same brand you now have, or would you buy another? If you wouldn't, then why not?"
