Heading for the Ozarks - but where??

Hi there,

We are taking our Mobile Suites on its first 'long haul', and will be traveling with two other couples. We depart Chicago and are heading for the Ozarks........ but where should we go?? What are the 'must do' places to visit, incredible campsites or places to stop or simply eat!!

We are leaving mid-October, leaving on a Friday night -- returning a week later - Sunday, about ten days.

I didn't realize the Ozarks covered five states, amazing. And with our limited time, we think that we would like to stay more north (Missouri), stay a couple of nights - move, stay a couple of nights and move again.

Your ideas and thoughts are most welcomed - thanks in advance

Eureka Springs Arkansas is pretty interesting too. Its just a little way south of the Mo. line, in NW Arkansas. I plan to be up in northern Arkansas the first 2 or 3 weeks in October. It is some beautiful country.

If your are going to the Ozarks, look at Arkansas State Parks. The state is doing a lot to improve. Just 20 miles south of Eureka Springs is Winthrow Spring State Parks. Wonderful hook ups. 50 amp and paved parking. Also do not miss Ozark Folk Life Center at Mountain View. Mountain View has a lot of Blue Grass Music on Saturday.

Carol

I can vouch for Withrow Springs state park, I spent 3 nights there, in the new section. It is a great park. I plan to go back sometime in the near future. Buffalo River National park is great too. but then so is Petit Jean, spent 4 nights each at those two.

If you like country music, go to Mountain View, AR. Lot's of local music shows and each night, there is a group on each of the four corners of the court house having impromptu jam sessions. The Ozark Folk Center is interesting. Blanchard Caverns just north of town is very beautiful and interesting.
There is a lot to see and do in northern Arkansas and southern Missouri.
