Thinking of buying Jayco

We currently own a 2014 Jayco White Hawk. This was our first camper. We have had nothing but problems with the camper, the dealer, and Jayco. (warranty repairs)

We are planning to go full time in Spring 2016 and are looking for our full time rig. We had decided on an Open Range 3X model, but now understand that Jayco has bought Highland Ridge - Open Range. In light of that information, we are now considering DRV Mobile Suites.

Bottom line, I would not purchase another Jayco.

Normally you get what you pay for. Make sure you get what you want to use it for. We have bought 6 trailers, starting off at a coleman popup from our tent accommodations We like camping. Now we like travelling and camping.

If you are seriously full-timing, you need to spend as much as you can afford to get as much fifth wheel as you can, if you cut corners, you will not be happy. DRV is pretty near top of the line. Jayco, probably not even in the running as a Full Time rig.

Bought new Jayco Eagle HT few months ago, liked it, decent quality for the price, but plagued with problems that the dealer needs to fix, meaning a warranty issue. Jayco has a 2 year warranty, which means its 2 years before they fix anything. Most of it was minor, but the final straw came with sitting in bed and seeing water SHOOT out almost 18 in from the electrical wall connection on my side of the bed. Then i noticed the front was a LOT heavier, meaning full of water...At this point I am in month 6 of ownership and said enough is enough, traded it in on a Cedar Creek Silverback and yes I lost $10k, but worth to avoid internal rot and mold. Overall we like the unit, but the warranty is not worth the paper its written on...note we contacted Jayco several times and they just said sorry 'bout that go see a authorized dealer, making zero effort to support or anything.

The ultimate parent company of Jayco/Open Range/Highland Ridge is...is...drum roll, please....THOR. 'nuff said.
Jayco enjoyed a good rep for many years, but they sold to Thor and guess it just isn't the same any more.

Bought a new Forest River, Cedar Creek Silverback. Very happy, and it like all had its share of warranty issues. My dealer could not get to them but FR said use Boerne RV in Boerne, Tx, we and we pay the bill, then FR sends us a check, no fuss, no muss.

Very pleased with service and support from FR.

Personally, I think buyers put way to much focus on the trailer. Yes, you have to like it and afford it, but I think as much focus should be on the dealer you buy it from. Seems like price is the deciding factor rather than who will fix it for you when it breaks. I think we are all in for a rude awakening since only the large mega dealers will eventually survive. They usually have high pressure sales people who have never used or even slept in an RV. Around me those big boys sell LOTS of units and decent prices but are terrible on service. I have always felt the mom and pop dealer is the best dealer to buy from. Do as much research on the dealer as you do on the trailer
