Raising the Trailer

So it looks like the previous owner had the axles flipped & a MorRide system welded in. Is there any safe way to gain another 2-3"? I am still nose high. These 4th gen. Ram 2500's really sit high from the factory. I suppose some kind of fabricated blocks between the axle & leaf springs would be a no no.

Of course you can gain some height. You need to find someone that knows what they're doing for advice. I think your best bet is to find someone in your area that can look it over.


I don't know that anyone here with the knowledge can help without seeing your trailer in person.

You have a fifth wheel with springs on top of the axles AND a Morryde IS? And don't have enough clearance?

Jason, "some kind of fabricated blocks between the axle & leaf springs" is precisely what a qualified company will do, but make sure that 'qualified' is the definitive word here. Search in your area (we have no idea where you live) for a heavy truck spring/suspension shop. Therein lies your answer. I don't suppose you'd be willing to venture out and post a picture or two of the rig hooked up?

Yep... as I mentioned these 4th gen. Ram 2500 & 3500 sit really high.

I work at a place that distributes metal, so if I grabbed two pieces of say 2X4" aluminum 6061 & put between the axles & springs with longer u-bolts... is that going at it the wrong way?
Here is hopefully (not very tech. savvy) a pic of it on the way home from picking it up... so it was empty. Ricardo & MM.JPG

Jason, thanks for the photo(s). A lot of us have the photo-orientation problem when posting. My iPhone camera doesn't do much to help either.
If I was in your situation I would simply live with it "providing I had adequate clearance at the tailgate."

It looks okay to me. Seldom will you see a trailer that is perfectly level. Yours doesn't look far off enough to worry about.


In my view the determining factor is how it handles and do you have clearance?

If it handles well and has clearance, then don't worry be happy.

This is a short bed, right? Do you have a slider? Where are you expecting interference? Has anything hit the bed yet?

You don't mention tire size. maybe going to a taller tire/wheel combination. You would need to be careful about tire to tire clearance.

PS I am facing the same issue. My 2017 Eagle HT 27.5 RLTS rides 3"nose high on my 2016 Ford F-350. I have about 8 1/2" space between the truck rail and bottom of the 5er overhang. I also have the Morryde 16000lb pin box. I have a Curt A16 and it cannot be lowered. I have been told to use blocks or change to a different hitch which would be Very pricey. The block kits are available through www.trailerblocks .com in many configurations. My concern is how top heavy will the 5er be? The center of gravity is going to be higher and living here in upstate NY the roads we travel in VT, MA, NY etc. have quite a bit of twisty's and turn's in the roads...We welcome any constructive thoughts as well

Primo I checked into that as well. Mine are 15" wheels. Going to 16" will not gain much. And the taller the tire, the less clearance between front and rear tires. But thanks for that suggestion from me.

Go to a good spring and axel place. They can insert a block if he needs one and they might even add a leaf to you springs. On our old 5th wheel, a company in Wichita, Ks. built some new springs and it raised it up and made it handle a lot better.

Yes I have a short bed (6 1/2' long). And yes I have a slider. I do not expect any bed clearance issues unless I get into a really tight or uneven ground. I was more worried about it putting too much weight on the back axle & not enough on the pin. It actually pulls down the road very well so it may just be an OCD thing of mine. It is not really all that nose high & as one other member on here said just deal with it & enjoy.

I have to put new tires on so I was actually looking into doing this as well. Was going to go from a 235/80R16 to a 235/85R16. One guy on another forum said I cannot do this cause it would be too tall. Since the axles have already been flipped & the tire change will only gain me .9" I don't think it would cause any rubbing issues.

And keep in mind that's diameter, not radius. The difference is less than 1/2 inch.

I like a rig that's nice and level too. Keeping the weight equal on the axels is pretty important also. So many of us are pushing the maximum weight on the axels anyway, it pays to try and distribute it equally.

What’s the measurement from the tailgate to the bottom of the unit?
Rough technique is to put your fist with thumb extended upward at the rear corner of the bed. This should give you 6” clearance.

I lowered my 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 4x4 last year by 2” with a kit I ordered on-line. The kit has new rear springer hangers, and new front keys for the track bar adjustments. Only downside is a rougher ride, but it’s a 4x4!

I believe that you`re rear axle will be close to if not over weight. Equalizers don't work as well as we think they should.
