goodyear tires
my 06 32tke has the goodyear LT235/85R16 G rated G614RSt on a trip this weekend my left (driverside) rear tire had the tread completely separate from the rest of the tire causing damage to the rear jack as well as the hydraulic line leaking. After reading about all the problems mobile suite owners have with these tires, I was wondering which tires are recommended for these heavy beasts?

It would be expensive but the best thing would be to go to 17.5 wheels and the Michelin XTA which are a load range J. There may be a good 16" tire out there if you can find it.

You didn't say the age of the tire but if it is the original tire from new that might be the reason.

booneII,
For a 32' Suites, the GY614s should have been good--as chevman said, were they the original tires, or replacements?
The changeover to 17.5" wheels/tires has seemed to have solved all the tire problems on these heavier trailers--DRV has optioned or made standard the better tires on new units.
For around $2500, you should be able to put the new 17.5" wheels on your hubs--just need to know the lug size (prob 9/16") and bolt pattern.
Best place I know of to get this done is from
www.trailertiresandwheels.com
talk to Scott--he knows everything about trailer wheels and can/will ship a set to you mounted and balanced, ready to put on. A 17.5" wheel/tire combo is no higher than the 16" and no wider either--everything is a good fit. You can even keep your best 16" as the spare. The old set can be sold on Craigslist quickly.
I used Michelin XTAs on my first set, but at 4 years, the treads separated and Michelin would not help, and cost was sky-high for their tires. I put Cooper RM160s on and have had no problems. Continental also makes the 17.5" at a better price than Michelin. The 17.5" tires have a carrying capacity of around 4800lbs eacn, so that is where the large safety margin comes from.
Go for it, its only money....

Having the 17.5" tires doesn't solve everything.
On our way from San Antonio to Augusta, GA two years ago, we lost the tread on a rear tire. Didn't notice it until DH was pulling into a site in AL for the night. No alerts from the factory installed Tire Monitors, so the GY seemed to maintain pressure. Luckily, it caused very little damage, only to the underbelly material.
The tires were only 4.5 years old. We switched to a different brand rather than just replace only the one tire.

Goodyear tires
Had the same problem over the past years. Have a 2006 36'TK3 After this peeling of tread and blow outs, we solved our problem on advise of tire people. Change tires every 3years. Cheaper than repairing unit or changing wheels. So far so good

we purchased the trailer 3 yrs ago from a moble suite dealer in Muskegon mich. it was a trade in so I can only assume they are original tires. The dealer said the original owner stored in in side, and I keep it stored in my Barn when not using it. The tires look in good shape?????

That seems to be a pic of the tire that threw the tread?
You can check the date of mfg by code on sidewall (xxyy) xx = week of year made; yy = year made
Many trailer tires will look fine based on treadwear, but the aging process has gone on since new. If they are original, get new ones--
Change them all to new GY 614s or upgrade to 17.5 wheels/tires as suggested.

Please tell us the date code. If original they are way past due to be replaced.
Since 07 the GY G tires have been very dependable.

I went through 4 G614's. finally changed out to 17.5 Mich J grade. Cost was just short of $3000 with shipping. Over $18000 in damages from the G614's. So the change over might be worth it.

Wow! I think that is the highest damage amount I have heard of, short of a wreck.

Ya they went out in pairs. $8000 the first time and $10000 the second time. But GoodYear paid for both. I didn't want to get stuck for the next time.

BooneII I lost tread on two Goodyears with in Two weeeks. After all said and done I ended up with 5 new G614 tires. NO CHARGE. Goodyear paid for every thing. Repair on both sides of Suite and Motel stay.
What I did was start a Damage Claim with goodyear. (Goodyear Damage Control, Akron, Ohio.)
800-322-4682.
I ran those tires 20,000 miles plus. Than Sold those tires and wheels.
Purchased Four Goodyear 17.5 Tires and wheels from trailertiresandwheels.com
Today you can buy four 17.5 tires and wheels from them, freight paid no sales tax $1,990.00.
Good People to deal with .

I assume the $1,990 price is for Chinese tires and wheels?

The wheels will be Chinese, but mine have lasted 6 years now and look pretty good when clean==no corrosion or pits or discoloration.
My tires were Michelin when I got the wheels...

Sorry about that. The Roadx tires offered from trailertiresandwheels.com for $1900.00 per set are Chinese. NOT a recommended deal. I did buy 17.5 U.S. Goodyears from them. Over 30,000 miles and still going strong. I know the tires are taking a beating because I have broken two springs on the Suite. Right front in May. Right rear in July.
