Carting a golf cart.

Crazy question? Well we are looking to buy a 5th wheel and want to bring our golf cart along. I know, I know get a toy hauler, we don't like the spartan appearance of them. We did see a Grand Design that has a small garage under the bed that raises. The appearance is something we like. OK so where's the question you ask. Here it is, is there a an alternative to having a garage? I've seen motorhomes with a carrier on the back carrying a cart, is there anything like that for a 5th wheel and if so is it safe.

Golf carts are heavy, loading one on a suspended rack off the back of a 5th wheel would or could kill the trailer. As the frames are not built to handle that kind of load hanging off the back. Either a toy hauler or a seperate trailer behind the 5th wheel are the only ways i know of safely transporting that kind of weights. Or a heavy duty truck, like a semi style with a bed on it that the cart could rest on like the guys do hauling a Smart car.

Let me get this straight: "We are looking to buy a 5th wheel and want to bring our golf cart along" coming from a guy who calls himself Roadking. I'm guessing so you can bring your golf cart to the bike rallies you attend? Yes, I am having a little fun at your expense. On a more serious note, Raptors and Full House are pretty nice looking RV's. I might also add that Grand Design isn't too shabby either.

NOTANLINES, the name comes from days of old. In those days I wouldn't have been bringing the home along with me.
Wingnut60, Looks like an interesting way to bring it along, wish it was a little shorter, even the new one at 7' is about 3" to wide.

We have looked at the GD Solitude that has the small garage under the bed but can't find any east of the Rockies.

Michigan laws allow us to tow a trailer behind the fifth wheel. Lippert, the frame builder for my elite suite installed a after market hitch in place of the bike hitch. I towed my aluminum trailer with Starr golf cart from Flordia to Michigan this past spring. It makes my units extremely long but legal in Michigan.

I would second the Idaho Tote. You avoid the "double towing" that is illegal in many states. The Idaho Tote is physically bolted to the trailer frame and the weight of the golf cart is supported by the totes own set of wheels.

We are preparing to order the 10' Idaho Tote for our 36RSSB3 Mobile Suites to haul the side by side we have (Licensed for street use) when we want to explore trails. We did tow a 10' trailer but it proved difficult with some states wanting to ticket us for double towing. The added bonus of the Tote is the ability to back up without any difficulty. Montana, Momentum has the same set up as the Solitude

But we own a 2018 Road Warrior 427 and our has a side patio on it as well as the rear deck.

"Double Towing" is not legal everywhere. I've seen many people getting pulled over with double trailers

Sam, I have a slightly different opinion. We travel extensively, yes, a lot through Illinois, Cairo to South Beloit and East St Louis towards Indianapolis. In the three years we have triple-towed we have never talked to anyone who has been stopped for the practice, nor have we seen anyone stopped for the practice. We have towed extensively through Florida, southern Georgia, Alabama and Illinois where the towing is frowned upon, but never seen any problem. As a matter of fact, it is very common in Florida and all the interstates in Georgia.

Another comment on the 'double-towing'--have seen lots of these combos going down the road, have yet to see one stopped by a cop. Legal--maybe not; enforced--barely, far as I have noted. Take a trip along US 287 between DFW and Colorado before hunting season and you will see all types of combos being double-towed heading to CO.
