Hose washers?
We have gotten bad taste from water washers on hoses. Seems chloride attacks some washers. Maybe I'm wrong but they do stick and taste bad. Most washers are for garden hoses and not drinking water. Where and what do I get.

hose washers
Glenn,
What an interesting question. I have never seen hose washer go bad from
getting soft-too brittle, yes. And, have not noticed separate washers in the drinking water hose section, but havent looked for them, either.
Somehow, I doubt there is enough surface area of a washer exposed to have any effect on taste--maybe the hose itself is the taste problem?
Maybe there are correct washers in the drinking hose section at Camping World.
Joe

No it's the washers. We took one out and it smelt awful. We found at rv dealer today. They are made from different material. No smell at all.

Why do you think there are so many people in China? Didn't work as condoms, either!

LOL LOL !
Well, Glenn you haven't said yet whether the "new washers" improve the taste of the water. I too have some question as to whether the bad water taste is caused by the washers. I have used rubber washers a lot, and rubber always has a rubber smell, but have never noticed a bad taste with them, but then I don't chew on the washers either.
Glenn, do those new washers you bought happen to come in different flavors?? I would prefer strawberry flavor, if they have it. Sometimes RV park water could stand a little flavoring!
Let us know if the new washers fix your problem!

When water starts to taste bad or smell, I change the filters. I dont know anything about the washers, I just use the kind you get in a ten pack from Wal-Mart. I was told a long time ago not to drink water, do you know what fish do in it????

hose washers
To get this thread back to hose washers....I said earlier Glenn had an interesting question. I am sure he had a problem and needed to correct it. Just happens that the subject was such a minor item that most of us have never had to deal with it. I would assume that for some reason the washers in his supply hose deteriorated--and was causing a smell--whether or not this corrects the taste/smell of the water in his trailer remains to be seen.
Washers I have seen are either natural rubber (this will degrade rapidly) or rubber with additives to prevent degrading, or some form of plastic/teflon that should never degrade. Not being a washer expert, not sure what happened to his to cause the problem. Perhaps at some point, excess chlorine was in the water--that would probably do in the rubber. I have seen this happen a lot in the older type faucets with the washer at the end of the stem held in by a screw--they fall apart way too often.
Glad to know there are washers to be used in drinking water hoses--I had assumed they were all the same.
Joe

hose washers
Glenn,
Glad that is a done deal for you. If you ever get near Ft Worth, TX, welding pipe, I need to get some lessons! There was a tremendous amount of that work going on around here until natural gas prices tanked.

It's the over all economy that's hurting us. I'm working for less money now than I have in 4 years. Check out Nuke plants. Hard to get on but still paying well on outages. One going on at WolfCreek in Kansas; also near Phoenix, AZ. jfyi
