amana stove

Latest screw up by DRV, Amana stove. Today had 3 of 4 grommets that hold range top grill up separate from washers so I had to bend grilltop legs so they would stay above burners, while we cooked dinner. Naturally the paint chip off as I bent legs to hold, now they will rust. Are you there Tom Peck? Are you part of the solution or are you the problem? We have had a number of issues and most are resolved but m ore keep popping up and now I'M out of their stated warrenty.

Stove

Bucky49,

That has been an on going problem with the stoves I suspect it happens in all brands. The design is very very poor.

It has happened in both of our Mobile Suites.

As always good camping

Mine has done that since new back in 2007. Poor design by the stove company. Can't blame DRV for it.

Go to a "Big Box" store and buy 4 expansion well nuts. They're about $1.50 each and will solve your problem.

BTW: The problem you're experiencing isn't unique to DRV. It's quite common. The washer is in place to keep the grate from "rattling".

I bought a half-dozen well nuts (2 spares) that were the same diameter as the hole for the existing washer and they did the trick.

Hope this helps.

We had one split and fall down under after 2 yrs of use. David found a temporary fix with a standard metal washer with a hole large enough for the leg to go through. He moved a good rubber grommet to the front and the washer to the back.

We haven't been near a Camping World in the last year to find replacements. But after 6 mos, it's still holding.

PS: If you need parts for your Suite, I would contact Leanne Thomas.

LeeAnn Thomas

DRV has moved Leanne to a different part of the operation I believe she supplies the parts to the dealers only.

I called last Thursday to order some parts for this junk 09 and was told that she no longer serviced the owners.

Greg Vaughn is now the person for parts for the owners.

Greg was a nice enough guy but isn't in the same league as Leanne as far as knowing the parts and the trailers.

I have dealt with Leanne numerous times and it was always a pleasure doing business with her she was very knowledgeable of the parts. She will be missed in her old position.

As always good camping

This isn't a new issue with the grommets. All 6 5th wheels we have owned had the same issue... Drv don't have a lot of choices. The 3 burner top stoves I used back in the middle 70's are still being used. The issues are nothing new. There are some who can never be satisfied and there are those who will deal with the problem in 2012. The problems are thru out the RV industry. There are many changes taking effect at Drv. Its the same, people either retire or move on. Had a nice conversation with Dave the owner of Drv at the Tampa RV show and this issue of people moving on was discussed.... Does anyone like change, I don't but I also wish people well in the choice they make for themselves and their family's. I commend them for their excellent support, those being Mr. Tom Peck, and my good friend Mr. Ryan Miller. But the world want end. Life goes on.. But bashing and bitching on the Forums only make you look bad there is always another side.. I believe if you aren't happy your doing something wrong, and how do you fix the issue. You move on..... Happy Trails...

P.S. I know of no one who was forced to buy a Drv Suites... It was a choice.... And you have a choice if your not happy, move on.

RonS...please forgive me if this offends your knowledge of computers, but I'm guessing you missed the link to Lowes which will take you to the picture of the expansion nut. If you will place your mouse cursor over the blue type in the previous post "Big Box Store", then look in the bottom left corner of the screen page, you'll see that "Big Box Store" is a link to Lowes. Just double click on "Big Box Store" and it will take you to Lowes home page and the description of the nut...
Lowes...otherwise known as a "big box store".

Regards
Gemstone

Jimfla and 5046, not everyone can walk away from an $80 to $100k money pit. If you can that's nice for you. It's a bit hard to double the debt and try to trade it in when you're "underwater" in today's economy by taking on a replacement. The same situation exists in trying to sell it outright if you can't get an offer that will cover the remaining loan especially when it is your home. For the rest of us who are not made of money making another choice not an option you can take on a whim.

Now if you are happy with your rig, great. I am honestly jealous and wish I could say the same. On the other hand no one is telling you to stop posting your opinion and it is more than a bit presumptuous of you to tell others what they can post about their real world experiences just because you don't like it. You also have an option, you can skip the posts if you wish.

Thanks for the link. I have siliconed my grommets in to the stove top but I'm going to go buy some of those expansion nuts. I assume that 10-24 is the correct size.

SOITC

Mike,

Well stated Mike, I like you don't really have a of hundred thousand dollars laying around that I don't have any use for.

Nothing I'd rather do than trade but its not in the cards. All I know is that I'm stuck with an 86000.00 and change mistake.

I will continue to post DRV short comings as they show up in my trailer. Only advise I can give is if your a cheerleader of the brand don't read my posts.

I think you left out one other very important option. The SOITC cheer leading forum. It is a great place to hang out if you don't want to hear real world experience about DRV products its peaches and cream over there.

amana

Didn't mean to start a verbal donnybrook. however as a fulltimer buying a "deluxe 5th wheel". I did expect some quality that would excede what I had in my $4000 1974 Holiday Rambler. So far this mobile suites has had more problems than my2002 four winds lite built by dutchman(crap). Drv seems to have a basic business plan that does not include customer satisfaction as first piority. Allowing employees on lines to continue to send out units with 20+ problems, substandard suppliers, warranty philosophy(we know its bad but we won't fix it here unless it breaks here.

Got rid of our 74 Holiday Rambler in 2004 all appliances worked and had never had repaires. the trailer was used about 9 months a year and traveled about 38000 miles in it life. last four years it was permanantly parked on Drummond Island,Mi it never leaked and stove and 3way frig furnace waterpump tank valves window cranks shower all worked. I did remove roof vents as I got tired of replacing covers and in cold of DI i liked not losing heat there. No seam seal problems. Coated roof every 2 years and packed wheel bearings(thank you) no nolube.
