Generator transfer switch

I just purchased a 2021 mobile suite 39dbrs3 and it is generator prepped. My question is does the Prep mean that there is a auto transfer switch installed so when I put aGenerator in it will be auto transfer capable My motorhome worked this way. I take delivery of this unit next week.
Thanks
Smitty

That should be the way it will work. But probably you need to know just how to connect in the J-box on side of the generator box. Do you have the hour meter and start/stop switch already in the control cabinet? If not, will need the wiring run.
And, welcome to the forum.

If you have the "prep" that means all the necessary stuff is there.. Just add gen and go.

Hooked up a gen to mine and transfer didn’t switch over. Replaced under warranty, still won’t switch on a portable gen.

I'm not sure the system is even designed to switch to a portable generator. I think the system is only for an installed generator like the Onan ones.

Did DRV or your dealer add a seperate shore power generator connection?

I think DRV stopped adding external generator connections because that requires either two transfer switches or that the generator breakers be manually switched off. If this is forgotten, goodbye onboard generator. I don’t know what the code requires. The best practice is probably to connect an external generator to the existing shore power line.

Called DRV. Had a new transfer switch put in under warranty, didn’t fix it. I agree with you. I don’t dry camp much and don’t really have t have one. Would be nice if necessary.

My dealer installed a 50A front shore power female receptacle up front. It has been been needed for campsites with the power pole too far forward for me to reach with my rear mounted shore service and external generator. I have to switch the onboard generator breakers off before I apply power to the front receptacle. The coach sees power at the front plug as generator power. The risk is forgetting to turn the breakers off and back feeding the onboard generator.

I should clarify what I said. What I meant was that the auto transfer won't work with the external generators, but to use something like the Honda or Yamaha or other external generators, one can plug the RV's electric into the generator. Depending on the supply service needed, one might need one or two dog-bone adapters to make it work. With our Honda EU3000iS, we had a dog-bone to convert from the twist-lock connection on the generator to a 30-amp socket end. Then we needed a second dog-bone to go from 30 amp to 50 amp.

The Honda worked fine, but we couldn't run but one air conditioner if any were needed.
