built in water filter

isn't the water filter supposed to filter both city water and fresh water tank water? I can tell that mine doesn't in the calrity of the ice cubes when using the tank. Does it filter the water before it goes into the tank? Or only when coming in the city water line? thank you, I have been meaning to ask that questioln for a long time! Cyndy

Mine only did the city water. So since I always use a filter on my hose I removed the one in the basement. 1 less thing to mess with. AND my ice maker dosent have a seperate filter.

The techs at Doubletree once told me that water from the fresh tank is run thru the filter before it goes to the faucet. But since they can't even seem to come up with a common plumbing diagram, who knows how the water is routed?

It is supposed to be filtering the water from both sources per the folks at the factory. It depends on who routed the water lines when your coach was built. In our case it seems to be filtered in both cases. It is not filtered going into the tank, that's just a gravity feed hose to fill it. If you use one of those inline hose filters then you are getting filtered water into the tank. I used to use one of those all the time but they are double the cost of the house filters and don't last as long in our experience so we stopped using them. If we go someplace where the water is really nasty (like Indiana) we'll use a hose filter to start with.

The only real heartburn I have with the shurflo filter is the inability to find "O" rings for it. I had to call the manufacturer and they sent me a couple. I treat them very gently to make them last.

After I got my suite I noticed that the factory had my water filter plummed so that it only filterd the water coming out of the fresh tank.
It Did not filter the water coming from the city water connection.

I cut the line and installed a "T" fitting so that it would filter the water from the fresh tank and city water connection.

Some places(depending on the amount of grit in the water) a 5 micron filter will clog up prettty fast.

In the summer time I use a 10 micron sedement filter outside the coach before the water comes into the built in filter where I use a 5 micron taste and odor filter.
